| A dog who
comes here regularly for grooming, as all dogs accepted must do, soon gets
to be an old friend. He is called by name and we cater to his personality
and habits. He quickly learns cooperation in being made beautiful and usually
enjoys his day at the grooming kennel.
We request
that all dogs to be groomed arrive first thing in the morning so that we
can work on them more efficiently, inasmuch as more than one person usually
does some work on each dog.
Except
in rare instances, where an owner may bring a dog in tranquilized upon
the recommendation of a veterinarian, the dogs are not given any type of
sedative to make them behave. Proper deportment is achieved through training.
A complete
grooming, at best, takes several hours. The dog is clipped, brushed, and
the coat shaped with scissors. His nails are cut and his ears are cared
for. He is bathed and fluffed, dried by hand until completely dry. When
free of dead and excess hair, tangles and dirt, his trim is "touched up"
and a "new dog" is ready for a little nap in his comfortable pen while
waiting for his owner to come for him.
